Spring Term

Learning Focus 11th to 28th March

  • Our focus stories for the next three weeks are The Little Red Hen & Easter stories.
  • We will be learning the pattern of the story, pretending to be the different characters and thinking about how the animals could have been better friends to the Hen.
  • We will be making our own bread, exploring what happens when we mix and bake ingredients.
  • We will be watching the eggs hatch- the incubator & eggs arrive Monday 11th March.
  • Whilst watching the chicks, we will talk about the life cycle of the chick and observing the changes that take place, watching the eggs hatch
  • We will learn a game called Where’s the Chick? to help us use the positional language on, in, under and behind.

Learning Focus 26th February to 9th February

  • Our focus story for the next two weeks The Enormous Turnip.
  • We will be learning the pattern of the story, pretending to be the different characters and thinking about the order in which everyone comes to help pull the Turnip out!
  • We are going on a walk to the local allotments, to discover more about the natural world using our senses and finding out about how plants grow.
  • We will be exploring, comparing and sorting fruit and veg into groups based on their different sizes. We will also have a look at repeating patterns, using fruit and veg to make a pattern.
  • With Mother’s Day coming up we have something planned but we don’t want to spoil the surprise, so we are keeping quiet!

Learning Focus 29th January – 2nd February

  • Over the next few weeks we will be learning to tell the story of The Three Little Pigs, creating story maps and retelling the story using key story language.
  • We will have three houses set up outside so we can act out the story.
  • We will use the story as a starting point to compare materials, investigating what material is heavier or lighter as well as choosing which materials would make a good strong house.

Learning Focus 8th to 26th January

  •  We will be learning to tell the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears, creating story maps and acting out the story using key story language.
  • We will discuss the feelings of the characters in the story. What makes them sad, angry or scared as well as talking about Goldilocks choices and if she made the right choice going into the bears house.
  • We will use the story as a starting point to compare sizes and amounts. We will investigate how many scoops of porridge it will take to fill up different sized bowls and make our own porridge.
  • As well as telling the story, we are going to learn a Three Bears chant and explore different instruments and rhythms for the three bear, thinking about what sound would match their difference sizes.
